1987 Honda Accord 2.0 Si
MODEL: CA5 2.0 Si (Australian)
ENGINE: A20A4 12v 120HP / automatic

3rd generation of Accord is pretty rare in our part of the world. Hatchbacks are practically non-existent, but this is even better… It’s unicorn. 2.0 Si – halo model, meaning Honda used this EXACT specification (trim, colour, engine etc.) for promotional materials, catalogues… It’s basically top-spec version of almost 40 years old car.
But rarity is not the only thing that makes this car so special. It’s beautifully designed – almost identical to one of the most popular JDM cars of that era, Toyota Trueno – with pop-up headlights, wedge shaped chassis and sleek, horizontal taillights, this is true essence of the 80s.
Car is powered by 2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with 12-valve cylinder head, paired with 4-speed automatic transmission. It’s not a race car, but it was quick enough in it’s times. Interior is finished in grey fabric and I can’t describe how comfortable it is!
I bought this car “accidentally” on 13th February 2013. It was imported to the UK from Australia in the early 2000s but has been SORN since 2007. When it popped up in my FB notifications, I could not pass it up. I drove all the way to Cornwall to pick it up in its sorry state, along with a huge box of brand new parts. The previous owner started the restoration process. A big portion of the car is already welded, but there’s still a lot of work to do. Unfortunately, it has to wait patiently in the queue while I finish work on other projects and get some spare cash to outsource some work on it. Unfortunately, I don’t currently have a garage suitable to weld it myself, and it needs some serious work before I can even start thinking of putting it together. Although it doesn’t look like it, the car is 99% complete. I am not planning anything crazy – I will most likely keep it close to stock condition, with maybe minor suspension alterations to give it a better stance and possibly some gadgets from the era, like a wooden steering wheel. The dream scenario includes sourcing an original digital dashboard, but it’s going to be a difficult task…
